Troop 306 Weekly Newsletter

Celebrating our 108th Anniversary serving youth in Catonsville and beyond . . .

CALENDAR

Here are some important upcoming dates:

JUNE

18 Troop Meeting via Zoom

25 Troop Meeting via Zoom

We hope all of you continue to be safe and well.  All activities and meetings inside the Catonsville Presbyterian Church building are suspended through the month of July.  Therefore, all Troop 306 meetings and activities in June will continue to be conducted via Zoom with few exceptions.  Please see the schedule listed above.  An email invitation will be sent out in advance of the meetings and any activities.

If there are any changes to the schedule, we will update you as soon as possible.  The Troop plans to meet throughout the summer, but will have fewer meetings starting in July.

SUMMER CAMP

On 6/1, we sent out an email regarding summer camp refunds and alternative plans for the summer.  Please see the email for detailed information.  Last week, members of the adult leadership also met via Zoom with Scout families interested in the virtual camp program through Resica Falls Scout Reservation.  If your son is interested in the virtual camp and you previously paid for summer camp, all that's needed now is merit badge selection and the preferred week(s) for completing those badges.  Liz Medina will be completing the registration; please send your requests to her at ljm5945@comcast.net before Friday, June 19.  NOTE:  All Scouts attending will be registered for the week of July 6 - 10 for the camp wide program.

JACK CALLAHAN'S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

Please the message below:

Hi, my name is Jack Callahan and I am a member of the BSA Troop 306. I have been working on my Eagle Scout Project for the past few months, and now I am taking action. My goal is to help the community learn the importance of the American flag, and how to properly dispose of them.

I am collecting as many tattered and worn American flags throughout the month of June in order to help teach the community about the importance of properly disposing an American Flag when it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of the nation. Due to Covid, I will then be live streaming a flag retirement ceremony, which I encourage everyone to experience once in their lives.

I will be personally collecting any flag donations at the Catonsville Frederick Road farmer’s market from 9am-noon on June 14th, 21st, and 28th.  Please come by and see me there if you have a flag to retire or just to say “hi”.   I am also having a fundraiser at Peace a Pizza on June 17th from 4 - 7pm. If you could mention my project while placing a pick-up order at Peace a Pizza during my fundraiser, that would be greatly appreciated and helpful towards achieving my project goals.

The flag retirement ceremony will be on July 5th, and I will provide the information to view the streaming ceremony later this month. Thank you for any flags you can donate, supporting me during my fundraiser, and being a part of my Eagle Project.

Please check my project’s Facebook page (and like/share) for frequent updates, including many fun facts about the American flag:

Thank you,

Jack Callahan

CAMP CARDS UPDATE

The Camp Card sale is extended until the end of June, but we need to start collecting money and any unsold camp cards.  An email will be sent later this week with a date, time, and location for dropping off these items.

There is still time to support the Frontline Heroes Campaign!  The campaign's purpose is to deliver 100,000 Camp Cards to local Frontline Heroes after the quarantine period ends to thank them for helping to keep us safe.  We are excited about this campaign!

For more information or to place an order, please click on the following link:  www.baltimorebsa.org/campcardorder.

So that proper credit is received, don't forget to include or remind your contacts of our unit (Troop 306) and your Scout's last name when placing an order.

Many thanks to Kristal for serving as this year's Camp Card coordinator!

FOOD COLLECTION PROGRAM @ CPC

Catonsville Presbyterian Church currently has an ongoing collection program for non-perishable food items.  There are large green trashcans lined with plastic bags on the left side of the garage – facing the patio of the Church House - for donations.  All food donations are being delivered to Grace AME Church and Catonsville Emergency Assistance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  CEA is working on providing bag lunches to the homeless 2 times/week.  Grace AME is working with the MD Food Bank and our community donations to provide food boxes to nearly 200 people/families each week.  If you are able/willing to participate in the worthy cause, please consider doing so.  All non-perishable items are welcomed.  Please remember to put the lids on the cans securely after use.  You also may send monetary donations to the CPC.

POPCORN COORDINATOR NEEDED!

The Troop has started receiving information regarding this year's popcorn sale, which will occur in the fall.  A coordinator is needed for this activity.  The responsibility is not burdensome or overwhelming -- in fact, the sale pretty much runs itself.  If you are interested in helping with this task, please let Cynthia know.

Many thanks to all of the parents have volunteered for a role or responsibility within the troop.
