CALENDAR

Here are some important upcoming dates:

JULY

1 Signs, Signals, and Code Merit Badge Meeting via Zoom

2 PLC and Troop Committee Meeting via Zoom

We hope all of you continue to be safe and well.  All activities and meetings inside the Catonsville Presbyterian Church building are suspended through the month of July.  Therefore, all Troop 306 meetings and activities in July will continue to be conducted via Zoom with few exceptions.  Please see the schedule listed above.  An email invitation will be sent out in advance of the meetings and any activities.

If there are any changes to the schedule, we will update you as soon as possible.  The Troop plans to meet throughout the summer, but may have fewer meetings starting in July.

UPDATE ON JACK CALLAHAN'S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

I am very happy to report that our very own Jack Callahan was recently interviewed by WBAL regarding his Eagle Project, and he also was featured in the Baltimore Sun.  Congratulations, Jack!!!  You represented Troop 306 very well!

Please also see a personal message from Jack below:

Hi, my name is Jack Callahan and I am a member of the BSA Troop 306. I have been working on my Eagle Scout Project for the past few months, and now I am taking action. My goal is to help the community learn the importance of the American flag, and how to properly dispose of them.

I am collecting as many tattered and worn American flags throughout the month of June in order to help teach the community about the importance of properly disposing an American Flag when it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of the nation.

I will be personally collecting any flag donations at the Catonsville Frederick Road farmer’s market from 9 am - noon on June 28th.  Please come by and see me there if you have a flag to retire or just to say “hi”.

The flag retirement ceremony will be on July 5th and can be watched live via Facebook.

Tune in at 3pm on July 5 to watch the ceremony streamed live on my project's "Fun with Flags" Facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/Fun-with-Flags-112886600430699.  A flag retirement ceremony is an event you should experience at least once.  Please also check the page (and like/share) for frequent updates, including many fun facts about the American flag.

Thank you for any flags you can donate, supporting my fundraiser on 6/17, and being a part of my Eagle Project.

Thank you,

Jack Callahan

CAMP CARDS UPDATE

The regular Camp Card sale has officially closed, but there's still time to support the Council's Frontline Heroes Campaign, which will continue until July 31.

For more information or to place an order, please click on the following link:  www.baltimorebsa.org/campcardorder.

So that proper credit is received, don't forget to include or remind your contacts of our unit (Troop 306) and your Scout's last name when placing an order.

SUMMER CAMP REFUNDS AND ALTERNATIVE PLANS

A handful of Troop 306 families will be participating in virtual summer camp through the Resica Falls Scout Reservation.

Other alternative plans for the summer are still being considered.  An email will be sent once decisions have been made.

Heritage Scout Reservation indicated that it would take approximately 4 to 5 weeks to receive refunds.  You will be notified when refunds are being distributed or returned to your son's Scout Account.  We have only received a few emails regarding refund preference (check, electronic refund via PayPal or Zelle, or Scout Account).  if you have not already done so, please email Cynthia with your preference.

FOOD COLLECTION PROGRAM @ CPC

Catonsville Presbyterian Church currently has an ongoing collection program for non-perishable food items.  There are large green trashcans lined with plastic bags on the left side of the garage – facing the patio of the Church House - for donations.  All food donations are being delivered to Grace AME Church and Catonsville Emergency Assistance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  CEA is working on providing bag lunches to the homeless 2 times/week.  Grace AME is working with the MD Food Bank and our community donations to provide food boxes to nearly 200 people/families each week.  If you are able/willing to participate in the worthy cause, please consider doing so.  All non-perishable items are welcomed.  Please remember to put the lids on the cans securely after use.  You also may send monetary donations to the CPC.

POPCORN COORDINATOR NEEDED!

The Troop has started receiving information regarding this year's popcorn sale, which will occur in the fall.  A coordinator is needed for this activity.  The responsibility is not burdensome or overwhelming -- in fact, the sale pretty much runs itself.  If you are interested in helping with this task, please let Cynthia know.

Many thanks to all of the parents have volunteered for a role or responsibility within the troop.

  • Membership Coordinator/Liaison:  Kim Mason
