CALENDAR

Here are some important upcoming dates:

JULY

16 Troop Meeting via Zoom

18 Signs, Signals, and Codes Merit Badge Meeting at CPC (rain date is 7/19)

30 Troop Meeting via Zoom

We hope all of you continue to be safe and well.  We recently learned that most activities and meetings inside the Catonsville Presbyterian Church building will remain suspended through the month of September.  Therefore, Troop 306 meetings and activities in July will continue to be conducted via Zoom with few exceptions.  An email invitation will be sent out in advance of the meetings and any activities.

If there are any changes to the schedule, we will update you as soon as possible.  During the month of August, the Troop plans to meet outdoors at CPC at least once in the back lawn area, and will be separated by patrols.  More information will provided about this meeting.

UPDATE ON JACK CALLAHAN'S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

Jack had a very successful conclusion to his Eagle Scout Project.  He and other Scouts from the Troop collected and retired over 350 flags.  If you missed the flag retirement ceremony, it can viewed at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/112886600430699/videos/1018948315187591/.

Please also see the following link for additional news coverage of Jack's project, the Troop, and the ceremony.  https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/catonsville-boy-scout-collects-old-flags-burns-them-in-virtual-ceremony

Again, Jack and his family really appreciate the support he received from the Troop and the community.

ARROWHEADS UP NEWSLETTER

Based upon a suggestion from Mr. Don Martin, I recently signed up to receive Arrowhead District newsletter, which is titled "Arrowheads Up".  It's a really nice online newsletter that contains information pertaining to the District and Council.  The most recent edition came out on June 30.

Please see the link below:

One of the events that the District asked me to highlight is the 2021 National Jamboree, which is scheduled to take place next summer at Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.  Spots are filling up quickly.  Please see the newsletter for more information about this amazing opportunity.

CAMP CARDS UPDATE

There's less than three weeks left to support the Council's Frontline Heroes Campaign, which will conclude on July 31.

For more information or to place an order, please click on the following link:  www.baltimorebsa.org/campcardorder.

So that proper credit is received, don't forget to include or remind your contacts of our unit (Troop 306) and your Scout's last name when placing an order.

SUMMER CAMP REFUNDS AND ALTERNATIVE PLANS

A handful of Troop 306 families participated in virtual summer camp this week through the Resica Falls Scout Reservation.  A couple of other Scouts will be attending in about a week.

On Tuesday, some members of the adult leadership will meet to discuss possible alternative plans for the remainder of the summer.  An email will be sent once decisions have been made.

Heritage Scout Reservation indicated that it would take approximately 4 to 5 weeks to receive refunds.  You will be notified when refunds are being distributed or returned to your son's Scout Account.  We have only received a few emails regarding refund preference (check, electronic refund via PayPal or Zelle, or Scout Account).  If you have not already done so, please email Cynthia with your preference.

FOOD COLLECTION PROGRAM @ CPC

Catonsville Presbyterian Church is still working with other churches in the area to gather non-perishable food items.  However, the large green trashcans have been removed.  Instead, there is a direct food collection program every FRIDAY evening (4:30 -6:30 pm) at the entrance of the large Frederick Road parking lot.  Food collected there is then delivered to the Knights of Columbus on Saturday morning.  If you are able/willing to participate in this worthy cause, please consider doing so to help those in need.  All non-perishable items are welcomed, and also may be dropped off at the Knights of Columbus on Saturdays from 8 - 10 am.

POPCORN COORDINATOR NEEDED!

The Troop has started receiving information regarding this year's popcorn sale, which will occur in the fall.  A coordinator is needed for this activity.  The responsibility is not burdensome or overwhelming -- in fact, the sale pretty much runs itself.  If you are interested in helping with this task, please let Cynthia know.

Many thanks to all of the parents have volunteered for a role or responsibility within the troop.

  • Membership Coordinator/Liaison:  Kim Mason
  • Special Events Team:  Annie Guzman-Allen, Carolyn Jones, Kathy Hill, and Hope Riley
  • Cyber Chip Coordinator:  Marc Huete
