We hope that everyone is safe and well, and enjoying the summer months. The re-opening status of Catonsville Presbyterian Church for the fall has not been determined and may be delayed due to recent rise in Covid-19 cases. For now, Troop 306 will continue to hold its activities outdoors at CPC, and the PLC and Troop Committee meetings will remain virtual.
We soon will be providing a calendar of Troop activities from September through March to help with scheduling.
IMPORTANT FUNDRAISING EVENTS
We want to bring your attention to two important fundraising events on the Troop's calendar. The first event is the Catonsville Arts & Crafts Festival on Sunday, September 12. During this event, the Troop assists with setup and breakdown for the Festival, and also monitors the trash receptacles through the day. Scouts/families will be asked to signup for shifts. More information will be distributed soon.
The second event is the Maryland Renaissance Festival on Sunday, October 24. During this full day commitment, Scouts (age 14 years & up) and adults sell sodas at various locations throughout the Festival. Again, more information will be provided soon.
CATONSVILLE FOOD/OTHER ESSENTIALS COLLECTION
Catonsville Presbyterian Church, the Knights of Columbus, and other churches in the Catonsville area are again collecting non-perishable food items and other essentials (cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper goods, and personal hygiene items) to support the food pantries/distribution centers at Grace AME and CEA. There will be a drive-through collection at CPC from 4 - 6 pm on Friday, August 13. Items can also be dropped off at the Knights of Columbus from 9:30 am - 12 pm on Saturday, August 14.
POPCORN SALE
The Baltimore Area Council is in the early stages of its annual popcorn sale. Unlike the Pack, popcorn sales in the Troop is an individual fundraiser, with all profits benefitting the scout account of the seller. This is a great opportunity to raise funds to help with your son's Troop-related expenses (camping fees, equipment, registration) throughout the year. Please be on the lookout for an email to survey interest in the sale. If there is enough interest in the sale (and we hope there is), we will need a parent volunteer to manage it. Training will be provided to the volunteer.
SCOUT SAVER COUPON CARD SALE REMINDERS
The Baltimore Area Council wrapped up the Scout Saver Coupon Card sale at the end of June, and we would like to move towards closing out the Troop's sale, too. We have approximately 50 cards remaining.
As a reminder, all profits from this fundraiser go directly to the scout account of the seller. This year, the Troop pre-purchased the cards to increase the profit that the Scout earns. The cost for each card is $5, of which $3 will be deposited into your son's Scout Account. And the card basically pays for itself based upon the immediate savings you will be receive at many retailers. This is a another great opportunity to raise funds to help with your son's Troop-related expenses (camping fees, equipment, registration) throughout the year. Because the cards cannot be returned, we ask that each family please consider purchasing a minimum of 5 cards for $25, if you have not already done so.
To ask questions or request cards, Kristal may be reached at braysmum@gmail.com or 410.963.1501(text is better than calling). Kristal will likely have cards available on the dates when she's leading the soil and water conservation merit badge.
WE NEED YOU!
Troop 306 has officially entered its 109th year, which is pretty awesome! This accomplishment is greatly due to the support from CPC, the community, and in particular parental involvement, and all of which are necessary for the Troop to continue to thrive. We encourage each family to attend the Troop Committee meeting held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm -- this is a great way to learn about upcoming plans, see how the Troop is managed, and obtain more information about areas of need. The meetings are currently being held via Zoom.
SCOUTING IS IN HIGH GEAR !!!!! LET'S HAVE A GREAT SCOUT YEAR !!!!
