HAPPMEMORIADAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, but it's also a time set aside to remember those service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our democracy.  In the midst of your celebrations, please take a few moments this weekend to reflect upon this, and thank any veterans you know or encounter for their service.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JEFF SCHARF!!!

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Jeff Scharf was one of this year's receipts for the Arrowhead District Award of Merit!  Jeff is so deserving of this recognition as he has faithfully served Troop 306 as Scoutmaster since 2012.  One of the criteria is that the person must have given "noteworthy service to youth."  Special consideration is given to the Scouting volunteer position and the extent to which the person has provided outstanding service beyond the expectations of the position.  This criteria is the perfect description of Jeff and all that he has done and continues to do for Troop 306.  Please join us on congratulating him!

SUMMER CAMP PLANS

We're so looking forward to summer camp at Rodney Scout Reservation, which is 4 weeks from today!  Please be sure to attend the mandatory parent meeting for all attendees on June 1.  The adult leaders are in the midst of final preparations for camp, and there are number of things still pending.

(1) The final payment deadline was Friday, April 23.  It appears that there are still a few families with outstanding payments.  If your son is attending summer camp, and you have not paid in full, please do so today or contact Cynthia to let her know your intentions.  As a reminder, scout accounts may be used for summer camp fees.  If you need to know how much funds are in your son's scout account, please speak with Cynthia.  Also, financial assistance for summer camp is available, if needed.

(2) Additionally, a survey was sent out on 5/12 regarding tent accommodations and Class B shirt sizes.  Responses were due on 5/15.  If you have not yet responded, we must hear from you today.  We are including a copy of the survey link below.

(3) As of today, we are still missing forms for more than half of the Scouts attending.  All required forms for summer camp (Scout Medical, Supplemental Medical, and Permission Slip) were sent via email on 3/25 and are due no later than June 3, 2021.  Please note that we will need two copies of both the Scout Medical Form and your Scout's health insurance card (front/back).  Please also remember that Part C of the Scout Medical From requires a physical exam and must be completed/signed by a medical examiner.  Also, please write out the schedule for any prescription medications on the back of the Supplemental Medical form.

Additionally, if any adult or youth is vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to attending summer camp, Camp Rodney is requesting that a copy of the vaccination certificate be attached to the medical form.

(4) Some of the Scouts have prerequisites for the merit badges that they will taking during summer camp.  If your Scout falls into this category, a list of the prerequisites was given to him this past Thursday at the meeting.  If your son was not in attendance, the list will be emailed to you.  NOTE:  Prerequisites must be completed and verified by an adult leader no later than Thursday, June 24.

CATONSVILLE FOOD/OTHER ESSENTIALS COLLECTION

Catonsville Presbyterian Church and the Knights of Columbus are again working with various organizations to collect non-perishable food and other essentials (such as cleaning supplies and laundry detergent) for needy families in the Catonsville area.  There will be a drive-through collection at CPC from 4 - 6 pmon the first Friday of June through August.  Items can also be dropped off at the Knights of Columbus from 10 am - 12 pm on the first Saturday of June through August.

SCOUT SAVER COUPON CARD SALE REMINDERS

Kristal McCormick, this year's sale coordinator, will have Scout Saver Coupon Cards ready for distribution at Troop in-person meetings.  If cards are needed before the scheduled in-person dates, Kristal can make arrangements with you. We have approximately 50 cards remaining.

As a reminder, all profits from this fundraiser go directly to the scout account of the seller.  This year, the Troop pre-purchased the cards to increase the profit that the Scout earns.  Because the cards cannot be returned, we ask that each family please consider purchasing a minimum of 5 cards.  This is a great opportunity to raise funds to help with the cost of summer camp and other Troop-related expenses throughout the year.

To ask questions or request cards, Kristal may be reached at braysmum@gmail.com or 410.963.1501(text is better than calling).

WE NEED YOU!

Troop 306 will soon be entering into its 109th year, which is pretty awesome!  This accomplishment is greatly due to the support from CPC, the community, and in particular parental involvement, and this support is necessary for the Troop to continue to thrive.  We encourage each family to attend the Troop Committee meeting held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm-- this is a great way to learn about upcoming plans, see how the Troop is managed, and obtain more information about areas of need.  The meetings are currently being held via Zoom.

Also, many thanks for Susan Treff, grandmother of Wyatt Sponseller, who volunteered to serve as our new secretary.  YAY!!!

SCOUTING IS IN HIGH GEAR !!!!! LET'S HAVE A GREAT SCOUT YEAR !!!!
